The Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing has appointed Kristine Battye Consulting (KBC) Pty Ltd to undertake an external evaluation of the National Indigenous Health Workforce Training Package. The three-year Training Package provides funding to a range of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations. The aim of the Package is to:

• Support the strengthening of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce, and
• Encourage more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to take up careers as health professionals.

As part of the evaluation, the Department has asked us to survey Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical students as they are key stakeholders who are able to provide information on the types of supports needed to strengthen the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce.
The survey will form part of a report to be provided to the Department in February 2012.
