1. Circulated by Citizens for the safe release of Manoi-Go to the reuse market

Dear Governor Schumlin,

While we deeply appreciate your Agency of Natural Resources for being the first in the nation to mandate R2, the highest electronics recycling standard, we hereby protest the recent arrest of break-dancing robot Manoi-Go, classified by your Agency as "E-waste" (see article).

The application of a disposal procedure to a working or repairable device will produce unintended consequences, including increased waste, carbon, loss of reuse jobs, and reduced cuteness.

We therefore ask you to commute Manoi-Go's sentence immediately, and to postpone further enforcement of procedures which define "waste" to be what something is made of, rather than what happens to it. Using electronics for their original intended use is legal under federal EPA rules, is the highest form of environmental management, creates the most employment, and creates fair trade recycling opportunities - partnerships between Vermont and "geeks of color" in other cultures.

Please give your agency the additional time they need to create procedures which will not harm innocent robots, laptops, warranty return devices, and repairable computers.

Please Free Manoi-Go!
