The Licensed Conveyancing Apprenticeship Consortium is working in partnership with Government and the CLC to define the first specialist Conveyancing Occupational Standard for England. We have reached a stage in that work at which we need to seek some feedback from employers of conveyancers.

Thank you for taking the time to take part in our consultation.

Developing the new Apprenticeship Standard is an opportunity to revitalise and future proof one educational route into licensed conveyancing. It will run alongside the existing qualification route and potential new routes that could be developed in future. The aim is to provide attractive routes to entry to the profession for new conveyancers and flexibility for both students/apprentices and employers.

The Consortium is working to define what activities an individual is required to perform at different levels of qualification. Then we must identify what they must be taught and the differing levels of complexity required at various levels of achievement. This will set an assured standard for an individual’s competency and eligibility to apply for a license at various levels.

Three proposed ‘formal’ conveyancing roles have been identified, these have been matched to three proposed qualification levels to be included in the Apprenticeship option; Foundation, Higher, and Advanced. This consultation aims to clarify the value of structuring the new Apprenticeship Standard in this way. After which the consortium will work closely with the CLC to establish if the proposed Apprenticeship Standard meets CLC conditions of licence at the current Licensed Conveyancer and Licensed Conveyancer Manager levels and at a new ‘Associate’ level.

This consultation seeks your views on the following:

• The structure of the qualification content, types of topics
• The professional attributes required of a qualified Apprentice
• Proposed assessment methods
• Time needed to complete each level of the qualification and be assessed as fully competent
• The eligibility each qualification provides in relation to conditions of licence for an individual
