Maintenance at local parks has declined in recent years due to economic conditions, which resulted in the reduction of maintenance workers, as well as the need to defer capital improvements for which there is no dedicated source of funding. South San Francisco is divided into four zones for the purpose of allocating park-in-lieu fees; developers are required by a specific formula to pay “park fees” when new housing subdivisions are constructed, and the funds must be spent on parks in that zone. Some zones have had construction activity, which was the source of the funds used to make improvements at Orange Memorial Park and Westborough Park.

Brentwood Park is located in a zone that has not seen any new home construction, and no developer park fees have been generated. However, clearly the park is in need of attention, and given the improved budget outlook for 2013-14, approximately $150,000 in General Fund dollars have been requested for Brentwood Park. We want your input in determining what neighbors and park users feel is the most urgent or important upgrade needed at Brentwood Park to be accomplished with the limited budget available in 2013-14.
