2014 Annual Programs of Excellence Awards

For the purpose of recognizing program excellence, the NISC Annual Programs of Excellence Awards contest has been designed to honor and promote the outstanding efforts made by senior centers to enhance program offerings to senior adults.

Programs conducted in a senior center between July 1, 2013 and September 30, 2014 are eligible for awards. Judges will look for programs that are innovative, creative and easily replicated.

Due to the potential volume of submissions, each applicant can submit only ONE entry. You are responsible for selecting the category that best fits your entry.

This award is now available to all senior centers.

Completed nomination forms must be received through this link no later than Friday, October 24, 2014. No late entries will be accepted.

1. Fundraising - Definition: Programs designed to generate revenue for the senior center.

2. Special Events - Definition: Programs designed as one-time events that promote the social wellbeing of seniors. Examples include-intergenerational, musical, artistic, thematic, seasonal and patriotic events.

3. Nutrition, Fitness and Health Promotion - Definition: Programs that are designed to improve the physical wellbeing of seniors and/or are designed to improve the general health of seniors through health related programs, lectures and screenings.

4. Education - Definition: Programs designed to educate seniors. Examples may include new and unique classes, technology, legislative or literary programs. Nutrition and health promotion activities will not be considered in this category.

5. Leadership, Civic Engagement and Community Development - Definition: Efforts established to increase community involvement through partnerships with colleges, businesses, schools, etc. and creative programs instituted to develop strong leaders and volunteers within centers.

6. Expressive and Creative Arts - Definition: New classes or activities such as drama, dance, music or visual arts.

Award recipients will be notified by December 2014. Award selections are made by a panel of judges and all decisions are final.

If your nomination receives an award, you must designate a representative to present an online informational session on your program.

NISC will recognize the winners on their website. An award booklet featuring the award winners will be available to all senior centers. The complete book of entries will be posted in the NISC Member Resource section.
