The Physicists Inspiring the Next Generation (PING) : Exploring the Cosmos with NRAO is a collaboration between the National Society of Black Physicists (NSBP), the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) and Associated Universities, Inc. (AUI) to expose traditionally underrepresented minorities to science and engineering with a focus on physics and radio-astronomy. The program supports two White House initiatives, My Brother's Keeper which is working to address the education needs of young men of color, and a second effort to promote interest in science among girls. PING 2015: Exploring the Cosmos with NRAO focuses on multiple levels of the physics and astronomy pipeline, and includes a two week summer program designed to expose middle school students to the fields of physics and astronomy at two national facilities (the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, West Virginia and Brookhaven National Lab (BNL) in Upton, New York), and a 10-week summer research program designed to cultivate interest in physics and radio astronomy research for undergraduate students at NRAO and BNL.

This coming year, pending availability of funds, we anticipate hosting undergraduate students at the NRAO Green Bank Observatory, and the Brookhaven National Lab. These undergraduate students will not only experience cutting edge research, but they will serve as mentors and teachers for the middle school students during the two week summer camp.
