You’ve heard about the proposed bond projects as recommended by the LGSD Long Range Facilities Planning Committee – now LGSD wants to know what you think! Please take a few moments to answer the questions below regarding your opinions on the proposed bond projects. The LGSD appreciates your feedback and your time! Question Title * 1. The proposed bond projects are estimated to cost approximately $31,850,000 over 20-25 years. This equates to an approximate tax rate of $1.99 per $1,000 of assessed property value for taxpayers, or around $199 per year for a home valued at $100,000. What is your opinion of this proposed tax rate? The tax rate is too high – I can’t afford it. The tax rate is just right – I support it. The tax rate is too low – we should be asking the community for more. It doesn’t matter what the tax rate is – I can’t afford any more taxes, even if it’s very small. The proposed bond projects includes the replacement of Central Elementary School on its existing property to the rear of the current site and still near the existing playground at an approximate cost of $14.6 million. The new, larger building would address current capacity issues, as well as make upgrades regarding safety, security and energy efficiencies. I support this portion of the bond project! I do not support this portion of the bond project because I don’t support the concept. I do not support this portion of the bond project because the cost is too high. I need more information about this portion of the bond project before I can form an opinion. I’m indifferent about this portion of the bond project. Question Title * 8. The proposed bond projects includes providing 7 additional classrooms and a warming kitchen at Island City Elementary School at an approximate cost of $3.5 million. This would accommodate the return of a neighborhood kindergarten, as well as replace existing portable classrooms that could be removed from the site. In addition, this project would include the replacement of the gym floor that could also support use for cafeteria purposes. I support this portion of the bond project! I do not support this portion of the bond project. I need more information about this portion of the bond project before I can form an opinion. I’m indifferent about this portion of the bond project. Question Title * 9. The proposed bond projects includes providing 2 kindergarten classrooms at Greenwood Elementary School at an approximate cost of $660,000. This would accommodate the return of a neighborhood kindergarten. I support this portion of the bond project! I do not support this portion of the bond project. I need more information about this portion of the bond project before I can form an opinion. I’m indifferent about this portion of the bond project. Question Title * 10. The proposed bond projects includes improvements at La Grande High School. One of these proposed improvements includes the development of a 5,400 square foot Industrial Arts Building to replace the existing outdated facility and improve upon safety. The proposal includes replacing the existing welding, metals and CAD labs, and to design the structure as a series of repeatable bays that can be added on to when private business partners become available for future growth of the Industrial Arts program. The approximate cost for this project is $1.5 million. I support this portion of the bond project! I do not support this portion of the bond project. I need more information about this portion of the bond project before I can form an opinion. I’m indifferent about this portion of the bond project. Question Title * 11. The proposed bond projects includes improvements at La Grande High School. One of these proposed improvements is to address issues in the LHS gymnasium, including the replacement of the wood floor and bleachers, interior paint, and locker room renovations. The approximate cost for these projects is $450,000. I support this portion of the bond project! I do not support this portion of the bond project. I need more information about this portion of the bond project before I can form an opinion. I’m indifferent about this portion of the bond project. Question Title * 12. The proposed bond projects includes improvements at La Grande High School. One of these proposed improvements is to make upgrades and repairs to the LHS Auditorium since it is regularly used by the community. These improvements include upgrades to the stage lighting, sound system and acoustical treatments, repairs to rigging, replacement of seating and interior painting at an approximate cost of $490,000. I support this portion of the bond project! I do not support this portion of the bond project. I need more information about this portion of the bond project before I can form an opinion. I’m indifferent about this portion of the bond project. Question Title * 13. The proposed bond projects also include addressing capital needs at remaining LGSD buildings. This includes upgrades to code/life safety (ADA, security, fire safety, etc.) at a cost of approximately $2.9 million. I support this portion of the bond project! I do not support this portion of the bond project. I need more information about this portion of the bond project before I can form an opinion. I’m indifferent about this portion of the bond project. Question Title * 14. The proposed bond projects also include addressing capital needs at remaining LGSD buildings. This includes making energy efficiency improvements with the replacement/upgrade of roofs, siding, windows and doors at an approximate cost of $3.3 million. I support this portion of the bond project! I do not support this portion of the bond project. I need more information about this portion of the bond project before I can form an opinion. I’m indifferent about this portion of the bond project. Question Title * 15. The proposed bond projects also include addressing capital needs at remaining LGSD buildings. This includes upgrades to the technology, mechanical and electrical systems at an approximate cost of $4.4 million. I support this portion of the bond project! I do not support this portion of the bond project. I need more information about this portion of the bond project before I can form an opinion. I’m indifferent about this portion of the bond project. Question Title * 16. Other options were considered as the proposed bond package was formulated. One of those options considered was the replacement of Greenwood Elementary School on the adjacent site at an approximate cost of $9.49 million. This larger facility would address current capacity issues, upgrades to safety, security and technology, and the addition of kindergarten classrooms. I support this option – please include it in the overall bond package! I do not support this option because I don’t support its concept. I do not support this option because I think the cost is too high. I need more information about this option before I can form an opinion. I’m indifferent about this option. Question Title * 17. Other options were considered as the proposed bond package was formulated. One of those options considered was increasing capacity at La Grande Middle School with the addition of 2,800 square feet (2 classrooms) and renovations to handle current capacity issues at a cost of approximately $920,000. I support this option – please include it in the overall bond package! I do not support this option because I don’t support its concept. I do not support this option because I think the cost is too high. I need more information about this option before I can form an opinion. I’m indifferent about this option. Question Title * 18. Other options were considered as the proposed bond package was formulated. One of those options considered was the replacement of four tennis courts and track at La Grande High School, with the installation of a new all-weather 8-lane track with drainage at an approximate cost of $850,000. I support this option – please include it in the overall bond package! I do not support this option because I don’t support its concept. I do not support this option because I think the cost is too high. I need more information about this option before I can form an opinion. I’m indifferent about this option. Question Title * 19. Total cost for all proposed bond projects is $31,850,000. Do you favor or oppose the proposed bond projects as presented above? I favor all of the projects! Let’s get this on the ballot! I do not favor the project as a whole, but would reconsider if certain projects were removed from the plan. I do not favor the proposed projects at all.
