The Department of Public Expenditure and Reform is collaborating with the Public Bodies Working Group on Ireland’s Open Data Initiative.

A piece of data or content is open if anyone is free to use, reuse, and redistribute it – subject only, at most, to the requirement to attribute and/or share alike. (http://opendefinition.org/)

Open Data provides a unique opportunity to use and re-use public data, and to create the standard infrastructure necessary which fuels economic, governmental and societal activity across many different domains. Open Data forms a core element of Ireland’s Open Government Partnership National Action Plan.

Stakeholder consultation is a key element of our approach to open data and this survey is part of a wider engagement strategy.

Data audits will help us to identify possible publishable datasets as open data. We welcome your suggestions for datasets that might be considered for data audits and possible publication as open data.  This survey complements the existing "Request" facility at http://data.gov.ie/feedback and will help inform the development of a national Open Data Strategy.

Published datasets are available at the national open data portal, http://data.gov.ie/.
