IMPORTANT INFO

Fill out these questions to register for our trainings so you can fulfill requirements to be a certified Sierra Club Outdoor Leader. There are a number of requirements to becoming a certified Sierra Club Outdoor Leader. This training will allow you to fulfill a number of them. Our training consists of three components over two different nights. The three components are Outdoor Leadership Training 101 (OLT 101); Basic First Aid certification; and a working with youth training. The first two are required by Sierra Club to be a certified Outdoor Leader. The last is required by the Bloomington ICO to lead our trips with youth. If you already have basic first aid certification from any reputable provider, you do not need to attend that portion of the training as you already have fulfilled that requirement.

The OLT 101 training will be on Monday 9/22 from 6PM-10PM. After this training, you will be certified in OLT 101.

The basic first aid training will be on Wednesday 9/24 from 6PM-9PM. After this training, you will be certified in basic first aid via The American Safety and Health Institute. The cost for the first aid training is $15. This covers our costs as the card costs $5, the booklet costs $5, and there is a cost involved in shipping the gloves and other materials. We would cover this cost but want as much of our money as possible to go to our programming with local youth. Adult in-person CPR courses through the American Red Cross typically run $70 so this is a bargain. We ask that you bring cash to the training. If this cost is prohibitive, please e-mail bloomingtonico@gmail.com, and we will work something out.

The working with youth training will be on Wednesday 9/24 from 9PM-10PM. After this training, the Bloomington ICO will let you lead outings with local youth.

The trainings will be held on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington. We will reserve rooms once we see how many people we need to accommodate. We will e-mail you with the location information once we have it.

These will most likely be the only trainings this semester. We intend to do another round in the spring. However, question #5 asks you if these times and dates are prohibitive, please state what dates and times would work better for you. If enough people say that they want the trainings but these dates and times do not work, we may offer another round of trainings this semester.

Thank you for your interest and wanting to get these professional accreditations so you can lead Sierra Club outings in Bloomington and all over the country. Please don't hesitate to e-mail bloomingtonico@gmail.com with any questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing you soon!
