Description.
This project is being undertaken as part of a program of research exploring people’s experiences playing videogames.
The purpose of this project is to gain a better understanding of what people like about games and the aspects of games that contribute to their enjoyment.
You are invited to participate in this project because you have an interest in video games.
Participation.
Participation will involve you thinking about your favourite video game and completing a short anonymous online questionnaire with most responses made on a 5 point or 7 point scale (e.g., strongly disagree – strongly agree). The entire questionnaire should take around 15-20 minutes to complete. Example questions include “I felt competent while playing the game”, “The game was aesthetically pleasing”.
Your participation in this project is entirely voluntary. If you agree to participate, you do not have to complete any question(s) you are uncomfortable answering. Your decision to participate or not participate will in no way impact upon your current or future relationship with QUT (for example your grades). If you do agree to participate you can withdraw from the project without comment or penalty. However as the questionnaire is anonymous once it has been submitted it will not be possible to withdraw.
Expected Benefits.
It is expected that this project will not directly benefit you. However, it may benefit you indirectly as the research will hopefully lead to the production of more enjoyable video games and to a better understanding of what motivates people to play videogames.
To recognise your contribution should you choose to participate, you can choose to go into the draw to win one of three $100 Amazon voucher (Amazon has no involvement with the study and neither they nor anyone else outside the research team will be given access to your data). If you choose to enter the draw for the voucher you will need to provide some basic contact information. However, your identity will not in any way be connected to your responses to the survey.
Risks.
There are no risks beyond normal day-to-day living associated with your participation in this project.
Privacy and Confidentiality.
All comments and responses will be treated confidentially. The names of individual persons are not required in any of the responses.
Any data collected as part of this project will be stored securely as per QUT’s Management of research data policy.
