Communities of Practice Leadership Committee Roles & Responsibilities

Leadership Committee – The Leadership Committee meets quarterly in March, June, September and December in the manner determined most effective by the committee, with one of the meetings taking place in person at the FOCIS Annual Meeting in late June. The committee reviews Annual Meeting program suggestions submitted by the COP and selects two to three to send on to the Program Committee for consideration. It is the responsibility of the Leadership Committee to ensure that program suggestions are well balanced and incorporate the interdisciplinary nature of FOCIS. Suggestions that are not forwarded onto the Program Committee may be considered for Member Society Symposia in collaboration with other societies and/or COPs.

Chair – The Leadership Committee Chair serves a term of two years which begins and ends at the FOCIS Annual Meeting held in late June. The Chair serves as the COP’s representative on the FOCIS Annual Meeting Scientific Program Committee, which will meet approximately six times over the course of the year’s meeting planning. Meetings will take place via conference call with the exception of an in-person meeting held on the last day of the FOCIS Annual Meeting the year prior.

Vice Chair – The Leadership Committee Vice Chair serves a term of two years which begins and ends at the FOCIS Annual Meeting held in late June. The Vice Chair automatically succeeds the Chair at the end of the two-year term.

Early Career Members – The three Leadership Committee Junior Members serve staggered three-year terms. In order to stagger the terms the two of the first Early Career Members will have three-year terms and one will have a two- year term. In the next round of elections, all Early Career Members will be elected with three-year terms. Early Career Members are expected to participate in all Leadership Committee calls and meetings. Each year two Early Career Members from the collective COPs will be selected to serve on the Annual Meeting Scientific Program Committee. This role will rotate among the seven COPs each year. The Early Career Members who serve on the program committee are expected to participate in approximately five programming calls and attend the in-person meeting held at the FOCIS Annual Meeting the year prior.
