The Eugene/Springfield Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan
The cities of Eugene and Springfield are in the early stages of updating our Multi-jurisdictional Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan (NHMP). This plan helps prioritize actions to prevent some of the more negative impacts associated with natural hazards including flooding, wildfires, landslides, winter storms, volcanic eruptions, dam failure and earthquakes.

The importance of updating the NHMP
Maintaining and updating the plan enables local governments, utilities, businesses, and resident to regularly review and reassess priorities to ensure mitigation actions remain current and relevant. The Federal Government requires local jurisdictions update their NHMP every five years in order to retain eligibility to apply for several Federal mitigation funding sources. For example, having a current NHMP allowed Eugene Water and Electric Board (EWEB), and Springfield Utility Board (SUB), and both Eugene and Springfield to receive reimbursement for storm clean up in 2014.
