The internet, in just a few decades, has become a central infrastructure for sharing knowledge and entertainment, connecting and engaging people, expressing opinions and emotions, and conducting business. The more important it became, the more intense the pressures to regulate and amend the essentially winning scheme of openness and neutrality have become. This begs important questions. How should it develop, and where should attention and effort to transform or defend it be directed? Here, ISOC International and the ISOC local chapters need your help, to help shape the agenda for the near future.

The main resource of the Internet Society chapters are people who deeply care about the Internet. This survey is designed to find out what you care about most and what you think the ISOC international, and ISOC's chapters should be addressing over the coming months and years. Please take a moment to answer if and when you think the 21 aspects listed below will become important for you. Your answers will help the chapters guide their activities, and possibly help to build a European shared agenda that will make ISOC’s message and impact more powerful.

* 7. Cyber Terrorism (More and more crucial infrastructures and services are dependent on the Internet. This makes them susceptible to terrorist attacks. At the same time, openness is one of the defining characteristics of the web. Where is the line in preventing mishap without giving up (too much) openness?)

Deep Packet Inspection (A specific subset of privacy, where content sent over the Internet is actually examined to determine what it is and whether it is legal, authentic, etc. Deep packet inspection allows for data to be filtered on content and the entity encharged with this role can essentially read all the files which has implications for privacy and security.)

* 9. Education (For internet governance to be successful, politicians need to be knowledgeable about how internet works. How much attention should be given to educating regarding the Internet in current curricula in both schools and evening seminars?)

* 10. Encryption (Desirability - After Snowden, the need for private encryption arose throughout the world. Big brother is indeed watching, and people wish for their privacy to be protected. There are several possible ways to use private encryption.)

* 11. Encryption protocols (Having encryption easily available makes criminal investigations and other legitimate surveillance more difficult. Should ISOC strive to search for and promote reflected and educated views on this matter?)

Ethics & Values of the Internet (The original Internet embodies certain values and ethics (like openness, extendibility, neutrality) that have a severe impact on how it developed and what is allowed. Yet, these values are seldom discussed. Which are the values that we want to preserve or let go, and which new ones do arise?)

* 16. Internet Access & Coverage in less populated areas (Internet is better business where a lot of people can pay for it. Rural areas does not have the same access as the larger cities. In some countries this is a big problem for the people living outside the large cities. How can ISOC make a change concerning this?)

There is obviously a concurrent increase in Internet/technology-related jobs. How much should be done to educate to match this change in demand dynamic and should any actions be taken to mitigate this? Or will free market decide?)

* 20. Mobile Technology (With new technology comes new infrastructure. Mobile technology opens up a large array of questions concerning connections and possible challenges concerning everything from access to privacy. How far should ISOC venture into this topic, and where should our focus be?)

Regulation of Internet Connected Critical Infrastructure (Critical infrastructure involves services such as the provision or water and electricity and any other infrastructure services that people and business depend on. Being connected to the Internet is convenient for these services and may provide better end-user experience, but opens these systems up to vulnerability. Should the Internet itself be treated as, and offered to the population on the same level as water and electricity is done today?)

* 22. Surveillance vs Privacy (Two opposing forces on the Internet are the perceived need for (global) surveillance versus the cry for privacy. Can the two be reconciled, and if yes, how?)

* 23. Whistleblowing (Certain well known whistleblowers have done a lot to expose the underlying mechanisms of mass surveillance by governments and corporations.
