Dear Survey Participant:

The University of Florida Smathers Libraries has provided a grant to conduct a survey of historic architectural records in Florida. The purpose of the survey is to collect information on extant archival records related to Florida architects and architecture that are located in cultural heritage institutions in Florida and aid in the future publication of the Guide to the Architecture and Design Collections of Florida. The collected information will be maintained in an online database located on the University of Florida Architecture Archives website. We have created a survey that will give us the information we need to complete the important first step in this process and have included one with this letter.

Your participation in this survey will aid in this important resource and we need your help. No survey of important architectural archival collections has ever been completed in Florida and is long overdue. Preservationists, researchers, scholars, students, and the general public interested in the architectural histories of their communities have a difficult time locating these historical collections and often are sent on frustrating and unproductive searches for architectural records. This Survey project is the important first step in creating a collective source for this information. The project is solely concerned with documenting the location of the records and not with collecting them.
