The Department of Psychology supports the practice of protection for human subjects participating in research. The following information is provided so that you can decide whether you wish to participate in the present study. You should be aware that even if you agree to participate you are free to withdraw at any time, without penalty.

This study is concerned with understanding the relationship between internal and external social forces and the consumption of alcohol and other drugs. You will be asked to complete a demographic survey and three brief questionnaires concerning: (1) feelings you might have in certain situations and (2) experiences you have had related to the use of alcohol and other drugs. Individuals who identify as a sexual minority will fill out one additional brief questionnaire concerning their life experience. This information will not be linked in any way to identifying information about whom you are.

At the end of the survey a link will appear that will route you to a different survey where you can choose to enter in your name and email address for the opportunity to enter into a drawing for a $25 Amazon.com gift card. This information will not be linked in anyway to your responses in this survey.

Your participation is solicited, but strictly voluntary. Do not hesitate to ask any questions about the study. Be assured that your name will not be associated in any way with the research findings. We appreciate your cooperation very much.
