Please vote on our MN-ACP proposed Bylaws
The Council of the Minnesota chapter of the American College of Physicians (MN-ACP) developed and approved an update of our chapter Bylaws, which the American College of Physicians (ACP) Board of Regents has now approved. This update awaits MN-ACP membership approval to go into effect. We are conducting an electronic vote between December 10, 2014 to Jan. 23, 2015 and request your participation and vote.

The primary motivation for the changes in the Bylaws is to ensure the MN-ACP Council includes a variety of perspectives of the internists in our state. Specifically, the changes include:

• Permits use of electronic communication rather than mailing all meeting notices to Council or members (Change Article IV Section 4.3- Notice of meetings: change permits use of electronic communication rather than mailing all meeting notices to Council or members);

• Clarifies positions of officers and establishes an Executive Committee (Change Article VII –Section 7.1- Officers: change clarifies positions of officers and Executive Committee);

• Deletes the position of Vice –President and Combines the secretary and treasurer positions into one position known as Secretary-Treasurer (Change Article VII –Section 7.9- Vice President: change deletes the position of Vice –President. And combines the secretary and treasurer positions into one position known as Secretary-Treasurer);

• Establishes an ex-officio Council position for the director (or their designate) of each of the Internal Medicine and Internal Medicine/Pediatrics Residency program in Minnesota (Change Article V Section 5.1- Composition of the Council: change more clearly identifies a broader diversity of Council membership in terms of geographic location, age, specialty and terms of office and includes new Council positions for program directors, chief residents and presidents of the IMIG); and

• There will also be four at-large elected positions with staggered terms to be filled through a nominations process which will be three years each (after beginning in staggered fashion so the very first election will be for one one-year term, two two-year terms, one three year term, then as those terms expire all three year terms.) (Change Article V Section 5.1- Composition of the Council).

Significant effort has gone into the Bylaws update. I hope you will thoughtfully consider the potential positive impact on our chapter.

Heather E. Gantzer, MD, FACP
Governor
