TO HELP PAVE THE WAY FOR ENHANCED HEALTH SERVICES ON MAYNE
Over the past few years, tremendous strides have been made in enhancing technology to support health care delivery in remote communities like ours -- not only through “bedside” testing (Point of Care), but through the use of telemedicine (e.g. x-rays transmitted over the Internet)and telehealth(e.g.specialist consultation over the Internet)
As your MIHCA board plans for the future sustainability of our health care services on Mayne Island, we need your help to get a sense of how well positioned we are today to take advantage of some of these new and emerging technologies. We would also value knowing how many Mayne Islanders are involved in their own health care management – hence this short survey, focusing on two things:
1.How fluent are Mayne Islanders in the use of computer technology to access health information, how many residents have access to computers and other Internet-related devices, and how many are using the Internet as a source of health information?
2.How often are Mayne Island residents currently going off-island to access health care services, in particular things like lab tests and specialist consultations?
We are also planning to broaden MIHCA’s current educational program through links to interesting and relevant webinars – on-line lectures/discussions that you can view from home or in a group setting. So you’ll see a couple of education-related questions in the survey as well.
Surveys are also being delivered to Mayne Island mail boxes in early June for people who would prefer to submit a handwritten one.
Thank you in advance for participating in this survey. It will only take a few minutes of your time and your responses will help guide the future of health care delivery on Mayne Island.
