AMERICA'S GREAT OUTDOORS GRANT DESCRIPTION

50% of survey complete.
Environment for the Americas and Los Angeles Audubon invite you to apply for our internship opportunity that spans both Baldwin Hills parkland in urban Los Angeles and sandy beach habitat along Los Angeles and Orange counties.

Internship work will focus on migratory/nesting bird projects, citizen science and public outreach. You will assist in a variety of shorebird and seabird work and well as habitat restoration tasks. The intern will develop and present bilingual (English/Spanish) public presentations, work onsite with educators as part of our environmental education and interpretative programs, develop and implement an outreach program into the local Spanish-speaking communities, and help with Los Angeles Audubon’s Earth Day and Conservation Art Show events.

Knowledge of bird conservation not needed, but a willingness to learn is required and an enthusiasm for interacting with the public and children is strongly encouraged. You will receive all necessary professional training and will gain real life job experience working alongside our wildlife staff and environmental education specialists. This is a great opportunity for career shadowing and hands-on experience in the fields of wildlife biology and environmental education.

Wildlife fieldwork with Los Angeles Audubon is focused on parkland and beaches that are accessible to the public and heavily used by local communities. In many respects these spaces are at the cutting edge of urban ecology, where a threatened or endangered species may exist adjacent to intense development and recreation activities. Participating in urban fieldwork requires patience and a willingness to engage with local community members in an inclusive, non-confrontational manner.
