You are invited to participate in a brief research project being conducted by Shannon McCoy, an Assistant Professor, and Ellen Newell, a graduate student, in the Department of Psychology at the University of Maine. The purpose of this study is to examine factors that influence the wellbeing of gay men and lesbian women.

You must be at least 18 years of age to participate.

What Will You Be Asked To Do?
If you decide to participate you will be asked to answer a series of questions assessing your personal thoughts and feelings about being gay or lesbian (e.g. Gay men/lesbian women are discriminated against), a series of questions about how you feel about yourself (e.g. I feel anxious; I feel like a person of worth), some general health questions (e.g. Compared to one year ago, how would you rate your health in general now?), some questions about your feelings and thoughts (e.g. In the last month, how often have you felt that things were going your way?), as well as some open ended questions about your experiences being gay or lesbian (e.g. Because Gay men and lesbian women are a vastly understudied population we would like your input about this study. Please use the space below to discuss any concerns, comments or ideas you have regarding this survey.)You will also be asked to answer some basic demographic questions (e.g. age; gender). It will take approximately 30 minutes to complete this study.

- There is the possibility that you may become uncomfortable answering some of the questions. If at any time any question makes you feel uncomfortable you can skip it or end your participation in the study by clicking to the end of the survey.

- There are no direct benefits to you from participating in this study. Your participation will however provide us with important information about the experiences of gay men and lesbian women.

You will not be compensated for your participation.

Your IP address will not be recorded. Your responses will be kept on a secure server or a password protected computer database indefinitely.

Your participation in this study is completely voluntary. If at any time you choose to end your participation, you may stop. You may skip any questions that you do not wish to answer.
