NAFA Safety Records of Managed vs. Non-Managed Fleets

NAFA is asking for your assistance to complete a survey on the safety performance and accident record for trucks in your fleet.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has stated it lacks accurate data on the accident profile for single-unit and Class 3-6 trucks. FMCSA is also very interested in data from truck fleets that are managed by a professional fleet manager.

An important objective of this survey is to test NAFA's hypothesis that the crash rate for a managed truck fleet is less than that of an unmanaged fleet.

By participating in this survey, you will be asked questions about:

• The number of Class 3-6 trucks in your fleet, including combination vehicles
• Whether your fleet has a driver training program and, if so, a few questions about the program itself
• The number and types of vehicle crashes that occurred in calendar year 2013
• Factors that contributed to the crashes, such as weather and/or road conditions
• Location of crashes (i.e. city, etc.)

Please answer as many questions as you can with the data available to you. Note that the information needed to answer some of the questions may be available from your fleet management company, if you retain such outside services.
