Background Information:

My name is Diana Callaghan and I am a PhD student at the University of Glamorgan. I am conducting a study which examines the use of instant messages as a form of on-line communication. You will be asked to read instant messages from four different people and asked to rate various aspects of the messages. Full instructions are given as the study progresses.

Your identity and results will remain anonymous and the data handling and destruction arrangements will be in accordance with the University of Glamorgan procedures for handling confidential material. The data you provide will be anonymised and retained for up to three years in electronic form when they will be deleted. Any coded data that is used as part of the larger dataset may be used in the researcher's PhD programme, and therefore may be presented at conference or published in a scientific journal.
You have the right to withdraw from this experiment at any time without having to provide any reasons to your decision and can refuse to answer any questions that you do not wish to.
