Workshop topics include Health and Wellness, Naviance Computer Training, Parent Leadership and Advocacy, Cooking for a Healthy Life, Zumba, Helping your child at home, What is the Common Core?, Supporting Children with Special Needs, and many more.
Breakfast and Lunch served. Child-care and fun activities for school-age children. Resource fair of community resources. Free give-aways and raffles. Transportation assistance upon request.
7. Latino Parent Institute - Lincoln-West
Participants in this 10-week program will become aware of strategies to assist in, and support their children’s education; have knowledge of how the school system works, understand parental rights and responsibilities; participate in school activities; and form a Hispanic parent support group.

8. Computer Training - East Tech
Computer Training for parents utilizing curriculum from the Connect Your Community Program, parents will be taken through a comprehensive course involving the use of computers, the internet, and Microsoft office suite. Parents will learn the basics of how to use a computer, how to surf the internet safely and monitor their children’s usage, how to use the parent portal to access their childrens’ school information, using the computer as a tool to organize finances, using the computer to enhance employability skills and various other topics that can arise that is related to internet. Courses will include introductions to CMSD’s website and tools; First in Math; Accelerated Reader Book Finder; Engrade (or other Teacher portals – Home Access Center); iReady (at specific schools), Naviance.

12. Career Exploration - Max Hayes
Parents will participate in private-behind-the scenes tours of major companies like ArcelorMittal – USA and Eaton Corporation and hear directly from company leaders of their interests in hiring qualified CMSD students and graduates. Transportation and lunch provided. No childcare available.

13. "A Taste of Black Lemonade: The Flavors of Parent Empowerment" - John Adams
The series helps parents identify and acquire positive parenting skills; build upon strengths within their heritage and family structure; improve communications between them and their children, and with school personnel; and increase academic performance. Sessions are an interactive, research-based introduction to the Black Lemonade Project.
