Introductory Statement: I would like to invite you to participate in a study looking at the relationship between MMO playing behaviors, psychological factors, and distress.
Study Purpose: This is a research study that is designed to look at the relationship between MMO playing behaviors, psychological factors, and distress. We hope to be able to explore the relationship between how someone feels and how they play a game.
What will I do in this study? In this study you’ll be asked to complete a simple online survey. This will take you approximately 20 minutes.
How long will it take me to do this? The entire process will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.
Are there any risks of participating in the study? There are no known risks associated with this research. You are not likely to experience any discomfort or distress beyond what you might experience daily.
What are the benefits of participating in the study? Although there are no direct benefits to you by participating in this study you will be helping the academic, counseling, and game development community understand how playing MMOs may impact some players.
Will anyone know what I do or say in this study (Confidentiality)? Your participation in this study will remain confidential. Only de-identified data will be analyzed and only grouped (aggregated) results will be reported. Your information will not be disclosed unless required by law.
Will I receive any compensation for participation? There is no direct compensation for participating in this study. The researchers will donate 50 dollars to two charities (for a total of 100 dollars) voted on by the participants in this study.
