Course Title: AISC Certification - Why should it matter to you? - 1 PDH

Speaker: Jacinda Collins P.E. and Todd Alwood, American Institute of Steel Construction

Often times, the Project Team “knows of” AISC Certification, but what does it actually mean to specify a certified fabricator or erector? How does this reduce project risk to you and your firm?

The AISC Quality Management Systems (QMS) Certification sets the quality standard for the structural steel industry and is the most recognized national quality Certification Program for that industry. It focuses on the entire process of fabrication and erection – which will prevent errors from occurring instead of ONLY inspecting and correcting them after the fact. Plus, it proves a company does what it says – by requiring that their processes be documented and adhered.

Attendees will learn about the rigorous process to become AISC Certified and updates to the AISC Certification Programs. Plus additional topics listed below:

There are several certification programs in transition. What does this mean for the project team?
What resources are there to combat the pressures to waiver the AISC Certification requirements?
How can attendees help shape the future of AISC Certification through their feedback?

Course Title: Introduction to Structural Steel Bolting and Welding Special Inspector Training - 1 PDH

Speaker: William H. Fitzjohn, Jr., Phd, PE, CWI

This lecture is designed to provide attendees with an introduction to the technical aspects, duties and responsibilities of the Structural Steel Bolting and Steel Welding Special Inspector according to the guidelines established by the International Code Council (ICC). The lecture is an overview of intensive 2-day and 3-day seminars designed to train professional engineers, architects and special inspectors in performing these special inspections as well as preparing them to pass the exams and obtain ICC certifications of Structural Steel Bolting and Structural Welding Special Inspector. In addition to a brief discussion of applicable IBC, MPSI, and AISC provisions we will discuss steel, bolting, and welding notations in structural plans

A. Its required by NYC DOB Special Inspections Rule RCNY 101-06

B. Primary inspectors (PE & RA) and supplemental inspectors (non-licensed professionals) have to be certified
