Introduction

The NSW Upper House has established an inquiry into the performance of the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA).

The inquiry has arisen after a range of environment and community groups in NSW raised their concerns about the EPA’s performance and failure to adequately respond to reported environmental breaches.

The inquiry will look broadly at the EPA’s performance against its objectives and at six individual cases where the EPA is said to have failed to adequately respond to reported breaches. The inquiry is also open to consider other cases that demonstrate the EPA’s failure to properly carry out its functions.

The Nature Conservation Council of NSW (NCC) is working with environment and community groups to respond to the upper house inquiry and make recommendations for strengthening the EPA so that it can effectively act as an independent and formidable environmental regulator.
