Overall Approach of the Strategy

The Climate Change Strategy and Delivery Plan have a vision and two main objectives. They also look at seven key themes and address how we reduce our emissions and prepare for the likely impacts from a changing climate.
The proposed objectives of the strategy are:
  • County Durham will reduce carbon-dioxide (CO2) emissions by 40% by 2020 from 1990 levels, ensuring year on year reductions. We will reduce the demand for energy, ensure homes and businesses are energy efficient and will promote alternative low carbon forms of energy generation.
  • County Durham will be a highly resilient place to live. We will build upon the work of the Climate Change Strategy Group partners and ensure that individuals and organisations are more prepared for the challenges of a more extreme environment.
