The Integrated Marine Biogeochemistry and Ecosystem Research (IMBER; www.imber.info) project is an international global environmental change (GEC) research project, sponsored by the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP) and the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR), with the goal of developing a comprehensive understanding of, and accurate predictive capacity for, ocean responses to accelerating global change and the consequent effects on the Earth System and human society.

The forthcoming IMBER Open Science Conference (OSC; www.imber.info/index.php/Meetings/IMBER-OSC-2014) aims to develop a science plan that will define, and provide guidance on implementation of, an international marine research beyond 2015. A position paper has been drafted with the intent of providing a framework for discussions at the OSC. The position paper will be revised during and after the OSC using inputs from participants and the larger IMBER community. The position paper will also provide an outline for the development of an IMBER contribution to Future Earth.

We invite you to provide comments on the position paper at the IMBER OSC as well as via the online survey accessible at [web address]. The online survey will be available prior to, during the OSC, and for some time afterwards. Comments received prior to the OSC will be helpful in framing discussion of the position paper during the break-out group sessions on Thursday, 26 June.

Thank you in advance for contributing to the development of a plan for the future of IMBER-related research.
