1. Guidelines for Participating in the Call for Comment

***
NOTE on 2ND RELEASE of the Call for Comment: This is the SAME SURVEY that was released earlier this year. If you have already provided your input for the Call for Comment on the International Code of Ethics for Educators, thank you. Your input has already been accounted for. Unless you have additional comments to provide, you do not have to complete the survey again.

The Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) is pleased to be developing an International Code of Ethics for Educators and welcomes the comments and suggestions of individuals and organizations working to ensure educational quality, access, and equity.

Please keep in mind that this is an international code for use by educators around the world. It will also target those working across the lifelong learning spectrum – from early childhood to adulthood - and not to one particular age group. As you provide ideas and comments you should consider concepts that are generally globally accepted. Your comments and suggestions will be helpful toward formulating a final International Code of Ethics for Educators.

We openly acknowledge the challenges inherent in creating such a code. The objectives for and delivery of education vary from nation to nation. However, this international code will be based on universal principles that emanate from international human rights understandings and international law. Most nations of the world have signed, and many uphold, United Nations treaties, for example, that include concepts that will be reflected in the principles. They will, therefore, serve as an overarching guiding light for educators but may also be adapted for local use, when appropriate.

In the survey pages ahead, the rationale behind development of the Code has been provided as well as possible ideas and areas for content. As you read the information provided and share your input, please follow the guidelines below:

• You may only participate one time in the Call for Comment. Deadline for participation is Friday, 30 January 2015.
• For every question there is a comment box for your response. There are 9 boxes to receive your feedback. Please ensure your comments are concise and clearly stated.
• Please note that the term EDUCATOR for the Code of Ethics will primarily refer to teachers but can include others working in educational environments and other areas of the education sector (e.g. school administrators, education consultants, professors of education, community-based educators, and family support workers.)
