A little background:
The Iowa Afterschool Alliance is developing an online statewide database of expanded learning opportunity programs that will be publicly searchable and provide data for aggregate reporting and analysis.
We want to know who’s out there providing before school, after school, and summer programming. There is currently no central source for this information in Iowa!
This first-of-its-kind tool will locate and aggregate data on afterschool programs in Iowa to serve as a valuable resource for parents, program providers, and other vital stakeholders. The IAA anticipates the following benefits resulting from the collection of this program information:
-The creation of a resource for parents and youth seeking structured programming for before school, after school, and during the summer
-The ability to utilize data collected to inform policy decisions at federal, state, and local levels
-Greater capacity to ensure the most effective use of community and school resources to serve the needs of children and youth
-Improved coordination of investments and efforts to ensure local needs are met
-Increased program provider collaboration and networking
-Enhanced school and community partnerships for seamless service delivery across settings
-The ability to conduct longitudinal tracking of program access and quality
The directory will provide real-time program information, not simply a snapshot in time. Programs will have ownership over their data, and the deliberate wire-framing process has ensured a streamlined data submission experience. The public interface will allow users to search using a number of filters. On the administrative side, data will be accessible for robust reporting and analysis.
