Imagine teaching your students a learning technique that, after a few minutes of practice, raises their performance by a full letter grade—for the course! Are you skeptical? Meet Dr. Saundra Yancy McGuire, Professor Emerita of Chemistry and recently retired Assistant Vice Chancellor of Louisiana State University. Dr. McGuire will join us for two sessions, in which she will share the results of her research in teaching and learning, as well as demonstrate the strategies that helped lower-performing chemistry students raise their test grades significantly (and beat the control group by a full letter grade) after a brief training based in principles of cognitive science.
