The Civic Engagement and Community Service Center has partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Chicago to assist their student during a time they have named Power Hour. Power Hour is an engaging homework help and tutoring program that encourages Club Members at every age to become self-directed learners. Students from Governors State will be recruiting for four different Boys and Girls Clubs in the Chicago area:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
-Power Hour occurs everyday from 3PM- 5:30PM.
-If you complete the process to becoming a volunteer.You will be required to volunteer for one day each week during the designated time frame (preferably on the same day) . This commitment will last throughout the entire semester.
-Students should desire to build a mentor/mentee relationship with their students and encourage them to make positive life decisions both in and outside of school.
-Ideal applicants are academically successful, organized, involved, and committed to making a difference. Additionally applicants with previous tutoring experience preferred.
-You will have to complete a volunteer application with the Boys and Girls Club. You will also be subjected to a background check in order to volunteer with the students. This background check is free of charge to you and will be provided by the Boys and Girls Club.

Here is the process that each volunteer will have to complete to successfully become a volunteer. These steps will be coordinated by the Boys and Girls Club:
1.Submit application
2.Phone screening/RSVP to an upcoming orientation
3.Attend orientation- bring and/or fill out following forms:
a. Background Check
b. Consent form
c. Commitment Pledge
d. CANTS form
e. State issued ID or license
4.After orientation and once your background check is cleared you will be asked to get fingerprinted.
After these steps are completed you will be able to start your semester of volunteering! This process should take no longer than two weeks.
