SURVEY OF SUPPORT PROVIDED TO SCHOOLS BY LARGE COMPANIES.

This survey is being conducted in support of the Accord on Basic Education and Partnerships with Schools signed in July 2011 by leaders of business, organised labour, community constituencies represented in NEDLAC and the Minister of Basic Education.
INTRODUCTION

In July 2011, the business community committed itself to accelerating its support for improving the quality of education, particularly in South Africa’s under-performing schools. This survey is being conducted to produce more detailed information than is presently available to business about how private players support schools, and which schools they support. The survey is targeting a sample of companies, foundations and trusts and is being conducted by an independent consultancy, Helene Perold & Associates, for the National Business Initiative (NBI), funded by Sanlam.

The survey supports the Accord on Basic Education and Partnerships with Schools, one of the social accords arising from the consultation on the New Growth Path, signed on 13 July 2011.

All information provided by respondents will be treated in confidence and the names of respondents will not be disclosed in reports produced following this survey. However, we would like to follow up with selected respondents for more in-depth information, and the information provided in the final question enables us to do that.

The survey comprises 16 questions and should take 10-15 minutes to complete. Thank you for your participation.
