Survey of a Gluten-free Diet and its Effects on Performance Amongst Elite Cyclists

A project for a graduate student’s thesis.

You are being invited to participate in a survey conducted by the University of Colorado’s (UCCS) Department of Health Sciences. You will need to be at least 18 years of age in order to participate in this study.

We ask you to participate in this project by completing a survey (30 minutes) that will provide us with information on nutrition knowledge, current diets engaged by elite cyclists, and how performance is affected by the initiation of these dietary habits.

The only potential risk by participating in this survey is feeling uncomfortable with answering some of the questions. If you do experience this feeling of discomfort, you may choose to not answer the question or withdraw from the survey at any time. We understand that some of the questions are uncomfortable, but we ask that you please refrain from skipping any questions because it will negate the purpose of our research by skipping questions. We expect the data of this survey will assist the working group in understanding current research regarding wheat and gluten sensitivity versus intolerance, food allergies, and the merge of these dietary practices with athletic performance. Upon, completion of this survey you will receive a link to a Gluten, Dairy, and Lectin-free Guidebook, which includes recipes and information for each diet. If you want to be included in the drawing, your name will be entered into a drawing for a $50.00 gift card to R.E.I.

If you have decided to participate in this study, please understand that your participation is voluntary and that you have the right to withdraw your consent or discontinue participation at any time with no consequences. You also have the right to refuse to answer any question(s) for any reason with no consequence. By answering this survey, you are providing consent to use your information for research.

In addition, your individual privacy will be maintained in all publications or presentations resulting from this study. This study is anonymous and confidential. No identifying information will be made public that could trace the data to your identity.

The survey is administered on behalf of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Department of Health Sciences, Sport Nutrition.
