Thank you for participating in this survey. This survey will be asking questions regarding your experience falling into the Health Care Expansion (AKA Medicaid) Gap in Florida.
The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) gives each state the option to expand Medicaid to adults ages 18-64, who make less than $11,490 a year as an individual or $23,550 as a family of four. To date, the Florida Legislature has chosen NOT to expanded Medicaid, leaving many low-income Floridians in the so-called “Health Care Expansion Gap.” Falling into the Health Care Expansion Gap means that you earn too little (less than $11,490 as an individual or $23,550 as a family of four) to be eligible for reduced-cost coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace, which is accessed via HealthCare.gov, but also don’t qualify for free coverage through Medicaid because Florida has decided not to expand its Medicaid program.
Young Invincibles and Florida CHAIN are attempting to capture stories of young adults who fall into the Health Care Expansion Gap in order to encourage Florida lawmakers to expand Medicaid for up the 1.3 million Floridians, including 419,000 young adults, who could qualify if Florida choses to expand Medicaid eligibility.
