How Are We Doing?
We're committed to monitoring the quality of the services and products we provide, as part of an ongoing improvement process. We would appreciate your feedback on our performance. (All submissions are anonymous.)
Here are some things we have done in the past few years.
Drafted and supported the Code of Ethics and Mutual Responsibilities Placement Agreement which clarifies that foster families are a part of the professional team and requires agencies to provide in writing the date and amount for each maintenance payment as well as many other requirements.
Hosted 3 annual support and training institutes across Virginia. Training on topics, such as:
Trauma and child development
Caring for children of incarcerated parents
Nutrition
Permanency Planning
Life Skills Assessment Tool
Court process
Advocacy Strategies
Provided over 10 electronic mailings per year on topics such as
Child Welfare Transformation
Family Engagement
Information about how VA's child welfare system is structured
Alerts regarding Congressional and General Assembly action
FACES advocated for a study by the Youth Commission regarding Criminal Background Barriers to Kinship Care. Commission is in the final stages of completing their report.
Represented families on every Virginia Department of Social Services stakeholder committee.
Developed a parent guide to VEMAT.
Created and staffed the FACES WarmLine which takes calls from across Virginia to answer questions and provide resources to families.
Hosted Camp FACES with Richmond City DSS to provide 35 adoptive families with a rural camping experience.
Created the "Lean on Me" campaign to provide families with items and support that they need.
Preparing to host a support forum, monthly, at the Virginia Correctional Center for Women for kinship caregivers and the child for whom they are caring.
Helped to create 6 support groups for families in Virginia.
Provided scholarships to over 100 parents so they were able to attend national and state training meetings.
Secured funding for projects from the Freddie Mac Foundation, North American Council on Adoptable Children, Adopt US Kids, and Casey.
Provided 200 Vstreet subscriptions to youth.
Developed the Ladders4Youth project to assist communities and families in making long-term support and housing commitments to youth transitioning out of foster care.
Served on national committees, including the coalition which worked to pass Fostering Connections.
Raised $35,000 for our reserve fund.
Developed the William E. Perry Memorial Scholarship fund and provided one scholarship and raised another $3500 for another scholarship to be given in May 2011.
Developed several on-line support forums which now have over 200 followers!
