Española Public Schools currently has a student population of 3,838. This is approximately 875 less students than it had in 2002, and represents only two thirds of the school age children living within the district's boundary. This dramatic loss of students equates to a reduced operational budget. EPS has a responsibility to its students and the community to use all of its resources efficiently and effectively. This includes its facilities.
It is vital that EPS and the business community establish partnerships to support the success of our students as they graduate from EPS and establish themselves as contributors to our society. We would like your input on the direction of EPS today and in the future.
Currently, EPS is developing a plan to consolidate and reorganize EPS elementary schools to make the District more efficient and effective for ALL students. Consolidation and reorganization of EPS schools entails a detailed utilization study of schools. To be efficient and effective, EPS will need to eliminate empty classroom seats which equates to closing some schools and redistribution of students to increase the utilization and effectiveness of the remaining schools. This is not an easy task and not to be taken without exploring every option and possibility. That is why your input is so vital to the success of EPS and our students.
