Southern Crescent District Cub Leader Training Signup Survey

This a "sign up survey" for Cub Leader Training on Saturday, October 11, 2014 (10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) sponsored by the Southern Crescent District, held at ____ UPDATE on October 5: here is the new location: World Changers Church International, 2500 Burdett Rd, College Park, GA 30349, in the Fellowship Hall, which, when you take the "first left" on Burdett Road after turning off Old National Highway, is the first building on the right _____, but come for "gathering time" at 9:30 for Coffee and Chick fil A biscuits.

The sessions noted below are a combination of "Cub Scout Leader Position-Specific Training", and instead of segregated sessions (for reasons noted below), this is "Pack Team Training", geared to give Den Leaders and Cubmasters and Assistants and Committee Members the knowledge and skills they need to have a fun and meaningful meetings for their Scouts.

The Sign Up Deadline is normally 11:00 pm on the Wednesday before the session -- but since we've got at least 20 attending, we're extending that deadline to 2:00 pm on Friday. The instructor requires 10 firm signups by then to put on this class. And if we cancel for lack of signups or other emergency, we will ONLY notify those who signed up, so be sure your fellow leaders sign up! We require "advance signup" because we will provide materials for attendees, and we cannot magically produce extra copies for people who "drop in", and the session doesn't work very well if there are just a few people (if we cancel for that, we'll direct you to alternate training sessions). Plus the Trainer's spouse and family are already sort of upset about the time he spends doing Scouting stuff, but can (sometimes) understand if there are lots of people attending the event.

* 4. Note: this "Cub Scout Leader Specific Training" will NOT divide into separate Tiger Den Leader, Wolf/Bear DL, Webelos DL, Cubmaster and Committee training classes. The reasons are:
(1) in our "neck of the woods" there are a lot of Packs that start out not much bigger than a Den, and so many Pack Meetings/Den Meetings actually include Cub Scouts of multiple ranks (and with limited leadership resources, it is often better to include 2 Tigers with an energized and well led group of 8 total scouts, than to have them alone in a less engergized Den);
(2) many of you Den Leaders and Cubmasters actually take on the harder "Pack Support Roles" that are ideally done by Pack Committee Members and Pack helpers (or ScoutParents), and so you need to know what is involved BOTH to get it done AND to pass the job to a willing Helper when you find one;
(3) almost all Den Leaders will be better able to "see the progression" of the ranks and program by seeing how each Rank Level works, and comparing and contrasting how to deal with the different ages;
(4) if they are going to help Den Leaders -- which is the most important job in Cub Scouting -- Cubmasters and Committee Members need to know what Den Leaders do;
(5) Den Leaders need to know what Cubmasters do and how Pack Meetings run, so that they can work better with Cubmasters and at Pack Meetings;
(6) knowing about the other Den levels helps all Den Leaders when you're mixing with them at Pack Events (so Tiger leaders don't "baby" Webelos Scouts, and Webelos leaders need to be sensitive about the Tiger stage of development); and
(7) while there are some differences in the Den Leader roles, there is much more in common when it comes to how to lead Scouts, work with Parents, and run a meeting.

As a result, the class will run a little longer than a "one level only" class to cover the differences and ways to "incorporate all" in one meeting.

First . . . how big is your Pack (or how big do you think it will be this year)?

Last . . . you might be the "First Leader" for a new (or renewed) Pack, or the first to "get serious" and take training, while other Packs might have lots of trained leader resources to "help you out". We might "reach out" to some of them to help you (and us) be sure that we cover important things for you to know about your Pack.

Does your Pack have other Trained or Experienced Leaders?

* 7. Also: the Trainers reserve the right to cancel the session on 24 hours notice if fewer than 7 attendees are firmly committed to attend.

The reason for this is that the lessons cannot be effectively learned without having at least a "den size" in the Class -- and attendees will have a more valuable experience in a larger group.
