Blurred Lines - young men, pornography and sexually explicit materials
|
1. Default Section
The Women's Support Project, Zero Tolerance and White Ribbon Campaign Scotland along with Stop It Now are working together to host a roundtable discussion day on the issues of young men, pornography and sexually explicit materials.
This discussion day will be held on Monday 6th October at City Halls Recital Room, Candleriggs, Glasgow, G1 1NQ
There are growing concerns being expressed across a range of sectors around teen relationships, consent, gendered attitudes and examples of violence and sexual violence being normalised and accepted.
We want to provide a space for front line staff and workers to talk about their concerns based on what they are seeing in their work and interventions with young people.
This is a free day funded mainly by the Challenging Demand, Women's Support Project with contributions from Zero Tolerance.
The discussions will a focus on:
what do we know / what do we not know,
what are the concerns and experiences of staff and workers
what is being done in Scotland to address these concerns
what else needs to be done and what are the next stages.
This event is relevant and open to colleagues from sexual health, youth / community work, criminal justice / social work, campus police, education, youth counselling / support and violence against women.
We anticipate there will be high demand for places which are limited to 60 delegates therefore places will be prioritised for those who are working directly with young people, in particular young men.
Please note - this event will be based on gendered analysis and sees pornography as a form of violence against women and as a contributor towards a culture wherein such violence is normalised, condoned and accepted. If you would like to find out more on this approach please go to - http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/People/Equality/violence-women
Applications for this event close on the 26th September 2014.
