Description of the Survey

ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) aims at using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to provide safe, clean and smart transport systems. ITS is therefore applicable to private cars, and cooperative ITS is one of the possible kind of ITS services, based on the use of different types of information sent by the road infrastructure and other vehicles, to provide ITS services to the driver.
Cooperative ITS services are likely to provide road safety or traffic information as well as mobility or comfort services.

The cooperative ITS applications installed in the vehicle will for instance display information or warning to the driver but may also include active driver assistance services in further steps.

The following picture shows the possible actions of cooperative ITS services in a vehicle according to the time to collision in a safety services perspective.

Question Title

Image
This survey propose the participant to evaluate the usefulness of 19 cooperative ITS services, based on a short description of the service including a picture. Each following question is relating to a specific cooperative ITS service.

A simple rating scale of 3 values applies as following:
Value = 1 - Not necessary - The proposed service is not likely to provide any benefit to the driver
Value = 2 - useful - The service is likely to provide benefit to the driver (safety, fuel consumption, …)
Value = 3 - Essential - The service will definitively provide benefit to the driver (safety, fuel consumption, …)

In the the following pages pages, each question is dedicated to a single service. Each page is providing a short description of the service as well as a picture enabling a better understanding of the situation of the vehicles on the road. The cooperative ITS service is provided to the driver inside the "subject vehicle" and may concern other "target vehicles" on the road.

The warning and information will be provided in the subject vehicle on the display usually dedicated to the media or the navigation. Some vehicle may also use a dedicated display for cooperative services.
