JAG Strategic Plan Survey- Introduction

The Colorado Division of Criminal Justice's Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Board oversees the federal Edward Byrne Memorial JAG Program for the State of Colorado. The JAG Board is in the process of developing a four year JAG strategy which will guide the spending under this grant program. To aid in developing the state strategy, the Board is requesting input from criminal and juvenile justice professionals and other interested parties about the state's criminal and juvenile justice needs within the JAG program purpose areas.

For several years, the JAG Board goal has been to prioritize JAG funds to support implementation of programs that prevent or reduce crime, delinquency, and recidivism; and that improve outcomes for those affected by crime, using innovative, multidisciplinary evidence-based, best, or promising practices.

The JAG program goal may be accomplished within the 7 Program Areas listed below. JAG funds may be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, information systems for criminal justice, as well as research and evaluation activities that will improve or enhance:

- Law enforcement programs
- Prosecution and court programs, including indigent defense
- Prevention and education programs
- Corrections and community corrections programs
- Drug treatment and enforcement programs
- Planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs
- Crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation)

This survey was developed to obtain a broad spectrum of input from the criminal and juvenile justice communities throughout the state. The results will be presented to the JAG Board to assist in developing the four-year state strategy.

Answers to the survey are confidential and anonymous. No specific identifying information is requested and no efforts will be made to identify any respondent.
