1. INFORMED CONSENT

The Department of Psychology supports the practice of protection for human subjects participating in research. The following information is provided so that you can decide whether you wish to participate in the present study. You should be aware that even if you agree to participate you are free to withdraw at any time, without penalty.

You must be at least 18 years of age and speak English as your primary language. You will first be asked to fill out a demographics questionnaire that asks questions about you, like your age and education level. Next, you will be prompted to select two contacts in your phone, with whom you feel emotionally the closest to, and for which you have saved 20 or more “sent” messages to. Then, you will be asked to type in your “sent” messages, exactly as they were written. Finally, you will complete a 20 item measure that asks questions about your comfort in interactions with others. The study will take less than 30 minutes for most people to complete.

The results of this study may be presented at professional meetings and/or published. Your name or any identifying information will not be associated with the published data. Identifying computer information, such as IP addresses, will not be collected. Your name will not be associated with your answers to any of the questionnaires used in this study.

Your participation is solicited, but strictly voluntary. No compensation will be given for your time. Do not hesitate to ask any questions about the study. Thank you for your time!

Sincerely,

Dedra Glennemeier
Principal Investigator
