Introduction

Dear EPF Member,

The European Commission recently published its assessment report on the implementation of the Council Recommendation of 9 June 2009 on patient safety, including the prevention and control of healthcare associated infections. The report is available on the website of the Commission in all EU languages. This shows that there is one particular area of concern where Member States are not doing very well: information and empowerment of patients citizens. Taking this into account, we prepared a survey that is simple and focuses specifically on patient organisations awareness and involvement in patient safety measures.

Why is it important to complete this survey?
This survey offers a first opportunity to collect the views of patient groups across the whole of the EU concerning the implementation of the EU recommendations on patient safety, and patients’ involvement in patient safety, in their country. The responses will be a powerful advocacy tool to drive patient involvement in patient safety, and to call for better information on patient safety to the citizens of all Member States.

EPF will present a summary report of the survey to the European Commission and the Council, and circulate it to EPF’s members. The report will also contribute to our ongoing work in the Joint Action “European Union Network for Patient Safety and Quality of Care,” funded under the Health Programme of the European Commission.

Please help us in advocating the patient perspective on patient safety to the European Commission and the upcoming Irish EU Presidency!

How to respond?
We invite you to complete the survey by 31 December 2012. EPF will send reminders before closing the online survey. Completing the questionnaire takes you approximately 15 minutes.
Please, try to respond to as many questions as possible, so that we can have your complete view on patient safety and involvement.

Please provide your contact information so that we can reach you if we need to follow up on certain answers you provided. The information you provide will be used only for EPF's internal communications and will not be shared without prior permission.
If you have any questions regarding this survey, please do not hesitate to contact our Project Officer, Ms Cristina Padeanu, at cristina.padeanu@eu-patient.eu

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION!
