Introduction

This survey asks about a segment of the Pacific Crest Trail in Skamania County, Washington. It ends up near Stevenson, Wash., about 30 miles east of Portland, Oregon, on the north bank of the Columbia River.

PCTRI already has some feedback on this segment. A mountain biker wrote us, in answer to an inquiry we made in 2012. He said:

"Numerous trails and old jeep roads north of the city of North Bonneville cross the PCT. Opening this section of the PCT would allow for many new loops & connections between existing trails and would give us the option of connecting from North Bonneville to Stevenson."

"Lack of steep elevation changes should preclude shuttling due to lack of payoff for the drive time involved. Many of the hikers here are through hikers who are usually happy to meet fellow trail users and engage in some friendly chatting. Sight lines are generally good and the lack of serious downhills limits the potential for [shuttling]."
