Welcome to the 2014 Neighborhood Conference Survey! The citywide neighborhood conference will take place on Saturday, September 13, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the Monona Terrace Community & Convention Center. Effective Engagement and Recruitment Strategies: A practical discussion on how to build inclusiveness, and continually engage interest, into your organization.

Working with Elected Officials and City Staff: Discussion of the role of elected officials, city staff, and best practices to work together to achieve neighborhood desires.

Working through the Development Process: The City’s development review and approval process and when/how neighborhoods can provide effective input.

Place making: Steps to transform a place into a neighborhood gathering place using lighter, quicker, cheaper techniques.

Developer Financing Fundamentals: Infill Development Projects: A panel of local developers discussing operating pro forma, debt and equity financing, and pitfalls and payoffs.

Neighborhood Grant Programs: Overview of various grant programs, types of projects, and how to apply.

Successful Neighborhood Projects: 5-6 short presentations of projects initiated by neighborhoods, how they engaged neighbors, fundraising plan, and lessons learned.

The Comprehensive Plan: Why is it Important to Neighborhoods? Brief overall of what it is, update and amendments, and how neighborhood goals and strategies can fit into it.
