Ranking Strategic Plan items

Every five years, NSTA examines its Strategic Goals to evaluate our progress and identify new directions for the organization. As always, we reach out to members and other constituencies through focus groups and surveys. That is why we are writing you. Please take a few moments to go through this survey and tell us what you think are the most important areas to focus NSTA’s collective energy.

Mentoring services—even mainly online—for early-career teachers, or those changing disciplines

In particular, helping me incorporate engineering into my teaching

Smaller, more-focused conferences—meaning, in my state or region

Advocacy for teaching as a profession, and for teachers as professionals

Smaller, more-focused conferences—with fewer sessions and organized around two or three specific themes

More peer reviews, ratings of NSTA offerings, so I see or receive the most-popular stuff first (Reddit-like)

In general, helping me manage my transition to NGSS

More-flexible membership, e.g., a group rate for my department or even colleagues across town

Make NSTA online—e.g., the Learning Center--easier to use

More video resources, especially quick lesson how-to’s, for journals, books, even conference follow-ups

More content that bridges to Common Core, as well as Literacy and Math Standards—e.g., literacy and math at the elementary level

Make NSTA authors available for PD, face-to-face in my district, or online

I’d like to see more resources just for me for my discipline(s) at the grade(s) I teach.

NSTA needs to make better use of technology, in digital versions of the publications, on its website, and with apps to provide resources that reflect my technical skill and preferences

More-flexible, broader-based membership, e.g., a STEM membership that bridges NSTA, NCTM, plus access to engineering and tech groups

More building- or district-wide access to NSTA resources—e.g., a site license for all Page Keeley’s books, that is available forever
