Research on Gender Differences in Alcohol, Drugs and Tobacco Use

Abstract: For many years, gender differences have been observed to be important factors in the etiology, pathophysiology, comorbidities, treatment needs and outcomes of alcohol, drug and tobacco use. However, little is known about how these gender-specific differences affect ED utilization, responses to ED-based interventions, needs for substance use treatment and barriers to accessing it, and outcomes after an alcohol or drug or tobacco-related visit.
