Question Title

DATE: Sunday, May 19 2013
TIME: Approximately 4 a.m. (to be confirmed) Sunday morning to 2 p.m. for most jobs.
LOCATION: Staging Area near the Red Cross Pier 54 Annex, 569 Terry A Francois Blvd, San Francisco, CA 94158. Transportation from this point to work locations and back will be provided.

Volunteer Opportunities and Requirements

NOTE: All positions working EVENT DAY, with the exception of Logistics, will be working the entire shift. Only Logistics will be split into multiple shifts, due to the extended needs.

DAY OF THE EVENT OPPORTUNITIES

Caregivers: administer immediate and temporary first aid care to individuals with injuries or sudden illnesses. Caregivers are needed to work in fixed aid stations & mobile teams along the course and in the finish area. Reports to an experienced Caregiver serving as Station Lead.

Requirements: Emergency Response (ER) / Emergency Medical Response (EMR) certification or higher level certification (EMT, Paramedic, RN, LVN, MD) and a current CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification (or AHA BLS CPR).

Recorders: work with patients & Caregivers - assisting with paperwork. Reports to an experienced Caregiver serving as Station Lead.

Optional: standard CPR & First Aid helpful, but not required. Note that this is a change from previous years.

Communicators: provide routine and emergency communication support. Reports to an experienced Caregiver serving as Station Lead.

Requirements: HAM radio license (any class) from the FCC

Public Affairs: one or more photographers and writers to document the work of the Red Cross Team at the event

Requirements: Must be a registered volunteer and current member of our Public Affairs team

Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) & other vehicle drivers: drive ERVs or other Red Cross vehicles, operate as a Recorder or in other capacity during the event.

Requirements: Current Red Cross volunteer (ERV certification required for ERV drivers).

Lost Children Ambassadors: staff Lost Children Stations, coordinate reunification of lost children and parents / guardians.

Requirements: must have satisfactory Background check and be a registered Red Cross volunteer over the age of 18.

Disaster Mental Health: Provide compassionate psychological care to those clients(runners, etc.) who have exhibited agitation, anxiety, stress or any manner of disrupted mentation. Also, will staff the two Sobering Tents for those who are too intoxicated to temporarily care for themselves.

Requirements: an individual must have an active, unencumbered, and unrestricted state license issued by a state or U.S. territory licensing board. NOTE: A state certification is allowable as noted in criteria B shown below. In addition to the requirements above, the individual must: A. Have an independent license (license to practice without supervision) and master’s degree as a clinical social worker, psychologist, professional counselor, marriage and family therapist, psychiatric nurse, or psychiatrist OR B. Have a state license or state certification and master’s degree as a school psychologist or school counselor issued by a state board of education (this is an expansion to the DMH eligibility requirements cited in 2008) OR C. Have a state license and a bachelor’s degree (BSN) as a registered nurse and American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification for psychiatric and mental health nursing to include RN-BC or PMHNP-BC or PMHCNS-BC. Exception: An individual enrolled in the DMH program in DSHR prior to the issuance of this requirement who does not meet these new educational requirements and clarified eligibility criteria (independent licensure or nurse certification) can continue to work in the DMH activity given good standing with his/her chapter and a positive performance history while working on local and/or national relief operations.

Finish Catchers: positioned at the Finish Line to be the 'eyes and ears' for those who are in need of first aid assistance from the Red Cross.

Requirements: Be a current Volunteer and have the agility and ability to be seen and heard above the crowd!

LEADING UP TO & DAY OF EVENT OPPORTUNITIES

Staffing: recruitment, license / certification verification, registration for Red Cross personnel working this event.

Requirements:

Recruitment and Licenses verification: Available to help with volunteer recruitment and scheduling prior to the event day. Work may be done from home using phone & email. Helpful if also available to help with registration day of event from 3:30 a.m to 6:30 a.m.

Registration: Handles in-processing of First Aid Station volunteers. Must be reliable, detail oriented and able to work in a fast paced environment. Must be able to work from 3:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.

Logistics: prepare equipment & material for use at the event prior to the event, transport & track during the event, and return and restock after the event.

Day prior to event (Sat May 18: noon - 6PM): staging of supplies and vehicles
Early Event Day (4AM - 8AM): loading of supplies, etc
During Event (6AM - 2PM): working with supplies, etc
Post Event (2PM - 5PM): returning supplies, etc

Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs

Financial and Statistical Information (FSI): track expenses related to the event and summarize the services provided at the event using data from the patient treatment forms.

Requirement: Must be a registered Red Cross volunteer and familiar of Red Cross Financial and Statistical activity.
