Thank you for your interest in applying to become a chat and text peer support volunteer on our HelpLine! This application form will take about 15 - 30 minutes to complete; feel free to save part way through and come back to it later. Please make sure that you have read the position description on our website before completing this application. No previous experience is necessary to become a peer support volunteer!

About our Training
  • For the first time ever, we are piloting a new Online Learning Platform for the first half of this training cycle!
    • Weeks 1-5 (June 14-July 21): 30 minutes of independent e-learning + 1.5 hours of zoom group each week 
    • Weeks 6-12 (July 26-September 1): 3 hours of zoom group facilitation each week 
  • Themes covered during training include: gender, sexuality, anti-racism & anti-oppression, settler colonialism, trans healthcare, harm reduction, and disability justice.
  • All successful applicants will be placed into one of two cohorts to ensure ease of participation – one cohort will attend their zoom sessions on Tuesdays and the other on Thursdays. 

Peer support volunteers must:
  • Be between the ages of 16-29;
  • Identify as: lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex, Two Spirit, genderqueer, queer, asexual, questioning, and or/ another identity that falls within the queer and/or trans spectrum;
  • Be living in Ontario, Canada;
  • Commit to volunteering 3 hours per week remotely (online from home/a private space) and attending monthly virtual meetings.
If selected to train for the Peer Support Volunteer program, individuals must complete a mandatory 12-week online training process, running from June 14th - September 1, 2022.

A 1-hour mandatory orientation will take place on the evenings of Tuesday June 7 (for the Tuesday cohort) and Thursday June 9 (for the Thursday cohort).

 
All volunteer shifts are 3-hours long and occur virtually, in small groups with other 2SLGBTQ+ youth between the hours of 4PM-9:30PM E.S.T.

Application deadline: 11:59 PM on Sunday May 29, 2022. Volunteer applicants will be notified about the status of their application by the end of day Monday May 30, 2022.
 
Interviews will take place on a rolling basis starting May 16, 2022 and ending June 3, 2022.

YouthLine has an accessibility fund to support those who may need additional support (e.g. headphones) to be able to take chats/texts/calls remotely.
