Have your say on vulnerable young people and children

9% of survey complete.

Every child deserves the chance to thrive, belong and achieve but not every child gets that opportunity.

The facts speak for themselves:
• Every year an average of 10 children die at the hands of the people closest to them, the people they love and trust.
• More and more New Zealanders are coming forward with their concerns about suspected abuse or neglect of children.
• Notifications to Child, Youth and Family grew by 205 per cent from 2004 to 2010 and 148 notifications were confirmed by social workers.
• More than 30,000 students are truant from schools on any given day, and 7,342 school leavers left with no qualification in 2009.
• Every hour, two children in this country are physically, sexually and emotionally abused.

The Government is concerned about vulnerable young people and children in New Zealand. It has put out a Green Paper with some ideas on what we could do, and is asking for feedback, comments and submissions from all New Zealanders –including young people.

To find out more about the Green Paper go to www.childrensactionplan.govt.nz or join the discussion on facebook.

These questions are drawn from the resource written to help leaders and teachers get young people and children engaged.
You can find it at http://www.childrensactionplan.govt.nz/home/resources

You can provide your feedback online by using this tool or by emailing your thoughts to yourresponse@childrensactionplan.govt.nz.
