Front and Centre: The role and future of youth work

Youth Affairs Council Victoria (YACVic)’s 2017 conference is aimed at youth workers across government, non-government, and community sectors. Front and Centre will explore themes around the changing nature of youth work, the complexities of our practice and how we tell the compelling story of youth work and its positive impacts.

Workshop noun = A meeting at which a group of people engage in intensive discussion and activity on a particular subject or project.

We are seeking individuals or teams to run inspiring, innovative, engaging and interactive workshop sessions to complement the range of dynamic keynote presentations over the three day event.

The four workshop streams (which will run concurrently for approximately 60 minutes) are:
  •  Research
  •  Policy and Advocacy
  •  Practice 101 (topics and ideas aimed new youth workers, with 0-4 years work experience in our sector)
  •  Practice Masterclass (for more advanced practitioners) 
Workshop topics that may be considered include (but are not limited to):
  • youth justice
  • family violence
  • NDIS
  • mental health and well-being
  • youth participation
  • youth work in cross cultural contexts
  • self care
  • models of integrated service
Workshop proposals will be selected according to:
  • topics, research and ideas that are relevant to youth work and youth workers
  • the capacity to engage the audience (please, no death by powerpoint)
  • a diversity of topics and presenters
  • experience engaging young people in program development and delivery, ideally demonstrating how this has improved outcomes for young people
  • co/presenting with a young person 
 
The deadline for expression of interest submissions is Thursday 3 August 2017.

WORKSHOP PRESENTER FINE PRINT
  • Timeframe: the deadline for EoI submissions is Thursday 3 August 2017. Shortlisted proposals will be notified by Thursday 10 August 2017.  Conference dates are Wednesday 18, Thursday 19 and Friday 20 October 2017.
  • Late submissions may not be considered.
  • Submitting an EoI to present a workshop at Front and Centre does not guarantee that you will present at the conference.
  • Please ensure the details you provide for your workshop title and blurb are correct as this will be used for promotion and in the conference program. 
  • Workshops are scheduled for 60 mins, this includes audience Q&A time. 
  • YACVic reserves the right to change the program up until the conference. This may include cancellation of sessions that have previously been confirmed or altering the time and date of a previously confirmed session.
  • If you are not attending the conference (as either a  one day or three day delegate) and only intend to present a workshop then you are not required to register or pay. Otherwise please ensure you do register and pay if you would like to attend the conference.
  • YACVic is a not-for-profit organisation, therefore all conference profits go back into the event. 
  • Conference staff will not enter into correspondence with people about why their presentation was not accepted for the conference.
